We are not a rental company and we do not own a fleet of cars. 4Drive Thailand is a comparison service that sits between travellers and the local suppliers operating across Thailand's resort belt - Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Bangkok. Our job is to pull together offers from suppliers we consider trustworthy, lay out the prices and conditions honestly, and let you pick the one that suits your trip. When you complete a booking, the agreement is between you and that local supplier, not between you and us.
This distinction matters because it shapes how we write everything on this site. We do not talk about "our fleet" or "our cars" because there is no fleet behind 4Drive Thailand - there are dozens of independent operators, from small family-run counters near Krabi airport to larger agencies with desks at Phuket and Bangkok's terminals. What we control is the comparison itself: which suppliers get listed, how clearly their conditions are shown, and how quickly you can get from browsing to a confirmed pickup.
Anyone who has tried to book a car ahead of a Thailand trip knows the problem: search results are a mix of international chains with deposit holds that eat into your travel budget, and local operators whose websites (if they have one at all) are hard to trust from abroad. Between those two extremes sits a large group of solid local suppliers who simply do not have the marketing reach to show up when someone searches for a car in Phuket or Koh Samui.
We built this site to bring that middle group into view, side by side, so travellers can compare them the same way they would compare hotels - price, car category, pickup point, and deposit terms all in one place. The result is that on most listings you will see no deposit or a small cash deposit rather than a credit card hold, which is simply how a lot of local Thai rental operators do business.
Each part of Thailand's tourist map behaves a little differently, and we try to reflect that rather than writing one generic page and reusing it everywhere. Phuket and Samui traffic is mostly airport pickups and hotel delivery for beach-hopping. Bangkok is a different animal - wide, congested, and better suited to a car hired for a day trip out of the city than for daily driving inside it. Hua Hin leans toward longer family stays and expat residents renewing a booking. Krabi has the added detail of a car ferry to Ko Lanta, which most of the other islands simply do not offer. Pattaya sits somewhere between a beach resort and a weekend escape from Bangkok. We try to keep the practical detail - road conditions, checkpoint habits, which documents get asked for - specific to each of these places rather than copy-pasted.
One thing we repeat across the whole site because it genuinely matters: an International Driving Permit alongside your national licence is a legal requirement for foreign drivers in Thailand, and it does get checked at police checkpoints, particularly around Phuket and Pattaya. We would rather flag this clearly than have a visitor find out the hard way.
4Drive Thailand earns a commission from the platform that processes bookings made through our comparison, at no extra cost to the traveller - the price you see is the price you pay. This funding model lets us keep the comparison free to use, but it also means we are careful about which suppliers we surface: a supplier that racks up bad conditions or a poor track record does not stay listed for long, commission or not. Reviews collected on our reviews page come from travellers who actually compared and booked through the site, and we publish the honest range of them, not just the flattering ones.
